As much as I love FireFox for its great developer community and multitude of available customizations, I do realize that it has too limited zooming capabilities. For example the image viewing screen only allows you to zoom out once and the in-content images have no zooming options at all.
Let’s try to fix it with the following 5 tested addons:
1. Image Zoom
Image Zoom gives a wider range of zooming options for the right-click context menu. Any time you come across an image that you think can be zoomed / rotated, right click on it and choose the options:
- Zoom in / out;
- Zoom in / out XX%;
- Fit the size (fit the screen size);
And rotating options:
- Rotate right / left;
- Rotate 180
ZoomFox adds a handy menu bar to your browser image viewing mode. The menu enables you to:
- Zoom the image in / out;
- Fit the screen;
- Reset zooming:
The option to view the image with ZoomFox can be accessed from the context menu after right-clicking on an image.
3. Image Tools
Image Tools is a more fun addon that lets you view all images from the current page in a handy option-rich browser. Like the above tools, this addon works from the right-click menu:
The image viewing panel lets you:
- List all page images one by one;
- Zoom images in and out;
- Zoom images to fit the window;
- Rotate image;
The addon also supports the variety of handy keyboard shortcuts:
- CTRL+S – save image
- CTRL+C – copy image address to clipboard
- RIGHT and LEFT ARROW – list images
- Q – fit to window
- E – original size
- W – zoom in
- S – zoom out
- A – rotate left
- D – rotate right
4. Image Tweak
ImageTweak is a handy image viewing addon that lets you easily zoom, rotate and display images against the custom background. When ImageTweak is on, it transforms the default image view page (white background, image in the top-left corner, only two zoom levels max) into a more customizable page.
It’s like all the above listed tools mixed together in a minimalistic fashion. First, adjust your settings:
- Set the default zooming factor (controls how fast the zoom is performed; the default value of 200 means that at each step the zoom is either doubled or halved);
- Select the background color;
- Adjust the image position, etc:
Now enjoy the more flexible options:
- Zoom in or out the image by holding CTRL and scrolling the mouse wheel (keyboard shortcuts: +/- keys).
- Rotate the image using ctrl+> and ctrl+< key combinations; etc
PicBlow is a newer addon that is very similar to the above one (the only differences are that it doesn’t have so many mouse options and keyboard shortcuts but, on the good side, it supports image lists).
The addon improves the image viewing screen by allowing you to set the custom background and adding more zooming abilities (again, the default image viewing screen offers only two zoom levels):
